Korrika Nº19 is already arriving in the streets of Basque Country to give strength to the Basque language. This year, for the first time, Inguru Abentura will run Km 2131 between Egino and Ilarduia, and later we will organize various activities at the Araia Sports Center.
Korrika is a race in favor of Euskara that runs throughout Euskal Herria. The objective of this race is twofold: on the one hand, to promote awareness in favor of Euskara, and on the other, to collect funds to carry out said work day by day in AEK‘s Euskara learning centres.
Since the first edition of Korrika, which was held in 1980 and took place from Oñati to Bilbao, Korrika has become one of the most important events in favor of Euskara, due to the number of people it manages to bring together. There have already been 18 editions of Korrika in the last 34 years, and on March 19, 2015 a new edition will begin that will cover more than 2,000 kilometers for 11 days, without stopping at any time and with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people. of all ages and conditions.
During the race, the runners carry a baton that is passed from hand to hand, kilometer by kilometer. Said witness carries a message inside that is not made public until the last moment, when it is read at the end of the race.
It is estimated that there have been several hundred thousand Korrika participants in previous editions. A participation, moreover, that increases from edition to edition. This fact and the movement that is organized around Korrika reflect in all its magnitude the determined commitment that Basque society makes in favor of Euskara. Korrika has become an event that mobilizes the entire Euskal Herria society every two years. Thousands of people participate in the organization of Korrika through the committees formed in the towns and neighbourhoods, and hundreds of cultural and recreational activities are organized during the race itself.
This year Inguru Abentura wants to be part of this great party running at Km 2131 between Egino and Ilarduya at 7:45 in the morning and organizing various activities at the Asparrena sports center on March 28 from 10:00.
