Descent of La Leze with Inguru Abentura, winner in the National Category of Adventure Activities in Active Tourism of the XXVI edition of the Active Tourism Contest organized by FITUR together with AireLibre magazine.
Last Friday we woke up to the news that the jury of the FITUR contest, in its national category of active tourism adventure activities 2021, has awarded Inguru Abentura for the activity of the Descenso del Barranco de La Leze.
We can only give thanks for this recognition to all the people who work enjoying and will work spreading their knowledge and their passion for this peculiar environment. And thank you all very much for your trust and support during these 18 years descending the Barranco de La Leze in Araba – Euskadi with Inguru Abentura!!!
Description of the La Leze Descent with Inguru Abentura, located in Ilarduia – Araba (Euskadi) La Leze, a spectacular ravine descent that crosses the Sierra de Altzania underground, belonging to the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park in Álava (Basque Country). The jewel in the crown of Basque canyoning.
La Leze Cave is a large cavity 80 meters high, which crosses the Sierra de Altzania massif from north to south. A cave carved out of limestone rock with abundant fossils.
Unique in Europe for its geological characteristics, with only 7 similar caves in the world. The origin of this cavity is found in the natural outlet of the water from the valley on the other side of the mountain range, known as the Hoya de La Leze, where our descent down the river will begin.
The Artzanegi river, which crosses the Altzania mountain range from one side to the other, made its way through the karstic system, transforming itself into an underground river that has its natural outlet at the entrance of the cave in the municipality of Ilarduia, Álava. There are several waterfalls that are registered inside the endokarst to bridge the great difference in level between the entrance and exit mouths.
Enter the gap carved by the Artzanegi river and cross the mountain avoiding all the difficulties that we will find on our way. Jumps, rappels, climbs, etc. that we will carry out in the most absolute darkness, only altered by the light of our headlamps.
More than 6 rappels between 3 and 25 meters long that will test our dexterity and balance. 2 jumps of about 3 meters high where we will show our courage and cold blood. 3 fun slides will give us the perfect combination for a cocktail that will refresh all our instincts.
Enjoy the descent of La Leze, a ravine dominated by the roar of water and the embrace of darkness.
