Descent of the Costechal Canyon (Pyrenees)

The Costechal ravine is located in the municipality of Escarrilla and crosses the town from north to south. Located in the heart of the Tena Valley, close to Formigal and Biescas, it is ideal for a summer day enjoying rock and water trails in the company of Inguru Abentura.

We start the canyoning activity at the end of the village, where we will equip ourselves and after a 5-minute approach we will descend to the Escarrilla ravine or Garganta de Costechal.

After the explanations of how we are going to work in the descent of the ravine, we start the activity with a half-hour stretch along the river, combining jumps, jumps and slides that will liven up the route. Once we reach the confluence with the Gállego river, we enter the Costechal Gorge with its spectacular limestone erosions and polish.

We will reach an aquatic section with a 25-metre abseil that also has the option of a 5-metre jump into the water. We continue with a 3-metre technical jump to enter an area of flooded pools and pools, also with the option of jumping, as well as diving into siphons. We follow the ravine downstream discovering new corners and with more jumps and swims to do.

We end up in a beautiful area of tuffs or “chorreras” with fantastic shades of colour. Once the canyoning activity is over, we will go out on a slope with stretches of ropes (via ferrata mode) that will take us to the beginning of the village in 15 minutes.
