Progress up vertical walls as if you were a climber but with the protection of a steel cable and steps for progression.

The Via Ferrata, better known as a ferrata, is an itinerary equipped with various elements of progression: chains, nails, staples, steps, handrails, suspension bridges and zip lines, which allow safe access to places that are not very accessible for climbers who are not used to climbing.

To secure the progression in a simple way, a steel cable is installed along the route and a harness with an energy dissipater and special via ferrata carabiners are used to stop and absorb the impact in the event of a fall.

The origin of the via ferrata is considered to date back to 1843 in Austria, with the equipping of the route to the Hoher Daschein peak with the sole purpose of making it more accessible. But it was not until 1903, when the western edge of La Marmolada in the Dolomites was equipped, that the via ferrata was considered as such.

World War I saw the proliferation of wartime via ferratas, whose sole purpose was to move the army. Today they are used by thousands of mountaineers to enjoy the beautiful landscapes that the mountains offer us.

Do you want to combine mountaineering and climbing in an original and safe way?

For the more adventurous we also have equipment for hire: Helmet, harness, safety carabiners and dissipative straps. Check prices in the rental section.

Which via ferrata do we recommend?

The via ferrata of Sobron is the best option if it is your first time. In addition to the beautiful landscape that we are going to climb, this area offers us three sectors where the difficulty increases. Start and dare to ferrate with Inguru Abentura.

Take a trip to the Pyrenees and discover part of our history on the Via Ferrata of the Fort of Santa Elena.

Our guides’ favourite is the El Cáliz ferrata in Cantabria.

Who can do ferratas?

For a sport like this we need to be active people, not sedentary and who are used to practising sport. You don’t need to be extremely strong, but you will have to bear the weight of your body and gradually climb up the marked route.

What is the recommended minimum age?

In inguru Abentura we have harnesses for children so that the youngest members of the family can also participate. The minimum age we recommend is from 10 years old but there are several factors to take into account. For example, they must always be accompanied by an adult or have a permit for the activity.

What does the via ferrata activity include?

  • Collective technical equipment (backpack, first aid kit, emergency telephone, etc.).
  • Individual technical equipment (harness together with dissipative straps and helmet)
  • Qualified and specialised guide.
  • Civil Liability and Accident Assistance Insurance.
  • 21% V.A.T.

Recommendations
